Why do you listen to Hip-Hop/Rap?
I love Hip-Hop because it's in it's truest form it's music about life in all it's best and worst moments. It doesnt stick to talking only about one subject, it covers every aspect of the lives of the lower to middle cl people. It was born from the aftermath of the civil rights movement and it expresses all of the feelings of everyone who was involved in that, whether a girl just wanting to spit some poetry, or a verbal freedom fighter needing to get something off his chest. Graffiti and record scratching and breakdancing were a way for people to express themselves in a way that had never been done before and against the norm and unique. The way it's music both has originality and samples other music reflects that it is influenced by everything around it, and yet is also independent and brand new. For me the most important part is lyrics, but I see all 4 elements as the building blocks to the culture I most closely identify with.
