What is up with USPS and Canada Post?

I ordered an item last week on ebay, it was from Hamilton, ON Canada. I live in northwest VT. Checking the tracking info my package has taken 6 days to go over 500 miles in the wrong direction, now located in Elk Grove Village, IL. Even for international mail that seems messed up.
