When TCP sends its packets does is use a dedicated path? what is the meaning of Connection oriented?

I am confused wha is connection oriented means does in mean all packets routed in the same way or 3 way handshake. I am taught IP Layer devices forward the packets whereever it finds a free path so How TCP force to Send all the packets in single path? In that case if the dedicated path disconnected on the half way what would happen then?
