Can you fix one installment of windows xp with another?

I'm not sure if it matters but the installment that is broken is xp home edition while the other is xp professional. Also I only have the recovery cd for professional, which apparently cannot fix xp home. So what I'm wondering is, Can I fix xp home without logging into it using xp pro?
